Fragile Flowers

An abstract drawing of plants made with thread dipped in jesmonite, resting on a piece of glass balanced on four small rocks. The threads keep the shape of the drawing when dried, but still need to be handled with a lot of care. This work is about the strength and fragility of the natural environment, the delicate balance that needs to be maintained in ecosystems, and the sensitivity required for any human intervention. It plays with and subverts perceptions of materiality, taking something soft but strong and making it hard and brittle.
